It is well known amongst the rowing community that rowing is an expensive sport! WeCanRow-Boston is able to keep our costs low due to charitable contributions, member fees and ongoing fundraising efforts.
The first “on the water” season (about 6 months) is free. The women of WeCanRow-Boston are committed to providing this opportunity to all women who are surviving with breast cancer, regardless of ability to pay (donations, however, are always gratefully accepted!).
The season from April to October is the “on the water” season. Fees for this 7 month season of weekly rowing run around $250 (2012). The season from November to March is the “indoor tanks” season. Fees for this 5 month season of weekly rowing at the Boston University indoor tanks run around $150 (2011/2012).
WeCanRow-Boston is insured through U.S.Rowing. Fundraising and donations allow us to pay for all members’ insurance, which runs around $1,500 annually (2012).
All WeCanRow-Boston members and New members must join the DeWolfe Boathouse. The annual fee is $40. Again, WeCanRow-Boston has voted to pay this fee for all members from charitable contributions and member fundraising efforts.
WeCanRow-Boston has a flexible sliding fee scale that is based entirely on an individual’s ability to pay. We know all too well the financial hardships that can result from a diagnosis of breast cancer. Members feel strongly that finances should not be a barrier towards participation.
