We had yet another successful season on the water, with an enthusiastic group of new rowers, beautiful weather (fabulous sunshine!), and great times together. Our newbies always inject us with new energy and remind us why we love rowing so much; this season was no exception.

It is a pleasure to write this first annual report for WeCanRow-Boston. We are able to look back at this past year and recognize the work that has gone into creating our local chapter of the national WeCanRow program. In order to make our program available to breast cancer survivors, we have focused our first year efforts on developing a stable, rower-run organization that is fiscally sound and responsible.

WeCanRow-Boston became an outreach program of Boston University in September 2009. As you might expect, this partnership presents us with innovative opportunities to bring our program to many more breast cancer survivors in the greater Boston area. We would like to thank Stacy Rippetoe, Head Women’s Rowing Coach, for taking the initiative in forming this partnership, Mike Lynch, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics at BU and Thomas Bohrer, Head Men’s Crew Coach for their enthusiastic support of WeCanRow-Boston. Our members now have access to more equipment that is designed for women and we anticipate that our program will thrive as a result.

We have addressed and achieved most of the goals in our strategic plan for 2007 and I am pleased that, in addition to solidifying the existing organization, we have brought in a significant number of new, active members.
